We are cobberdog breeders in the Lockyer valley near a place named Plainland, we prefer guardian families to be within and our of us and no more than 2 hours.
Our daughter Demi who will be a future guardian
Goodbye Astrid Goodbye, one of our lovely guardians
We will from time to time be looking at placing a few dogs into guardian homes. This is a great alternative to having all our dogs on our own property. Cobberdogs are really people focused so it is wonderful for them to have their own special faimilies. A guardian home is a way of getting the dogs straight into their forever home instead of retiring them after breeding. Its a very dog focussed approach to dog breeding with the dogs best interests in mind.
This means dogs that we would like to keep in our breeding program, can be a part, in moving the breed forward, whilst going straight into their forever home and being a cherished family member. For the dog the positives are, they are in their forever home from the get go. Less sharing, in a breeders home there is often several dogs so socialising and outings are done on a sharing and taking turns basis. Being in a guardian home a dog can be alot more socialised, have more attention and training, resulting in a more confident and happier dog. They will remain with the family forever so no new family once they retire. For a stud dog they will be commited to a time period, maybe 4 years where they will help us out now and then to sire litters. A girl will come back for 2 litters and then retire. For a girl dog this means her breeding life is alot shorter and normally within a year, a litter at almost 2 , then another litter 6 months later, they then retire.
For the guardian family the positives are: they will be given the best of what we produce. They will play a very special part in our breeding program and will get to see what their baby produces. They can make connections with the families who have their dogs offspring and often families will have meet ups if they are in a similar location or keep in touch via social media. Families with female dogs in our guardian program will be given the opportunity to visit us, their dog and her offspring.
For us the breeder the positives are that each guardian dog will be a families main focus and for us that means the dog will be in their forever home from the get go, loved, socialised and living their best lives. The guardian family will see to all the dogs pet care whilst we will take care of any breeding related expences. It also means we have less dogs here which means the dogs we do have will get more attention. For us that is the main thing, a dog getting all the attention and outings that they deserve.
Guardian families are very special families and are selected very carefully. Our own daughter Demi who is now also besotted with Cobberdogs will be a future guardian home, pictured here with Blondie.
